Motor Truck General Liability Insurance

Motor Truck General Liability insurance covers a large swath of things. The idea behind this particular kind of trucking insurance is that it covers any property damage or injuries that come from any business activities that aren’t directly related to the operation of your truck. That can sound a little confusing, so we hope to clear it up a bit.

Everything from customers falling while at your place of work, to exposure to libel and slander are covered by this particular kind of insurance. If you accidentally cause a fire on rental property, or deliver your goods to the wrong place and cause them to get damaged, this insurance will be there for you. If something goes wrong at truck stops, loading docks or the like, you’ll be protected with this kind of trucking insurance. The word “general” provides a large umbrella. You’ll be safe underneath it, as this is one more kind of insurance that can give you and your employees greater peace of mind.

This insurance covers quite a few different kinds of coverage:

  • Property Damage and Bodily Injury Liability - his covers a wide range of actions. Examples of where this might come in handy: you sell parts to another trucker and it fails later, causing them to crash. Your employees do a great job, you give them a couple drinks, and one causes an accident going home while drunk. This could even cover something as simple as failing to properly screen a driver, or getting a call about a former employee and forgetting to mention their history of drug use. This covers a lot of the little day to day things in life that may not seem like a big deal at the time, but can become so later on.
  • Personal Injury and Advertising Injury Liability- while this may sound a bit odd (“advertising injury”) it covers any kind of injury to an entity or person that isn’t physical and comes directly from your negligence. Perhaps the most common example of this is if you were to advertise using the logo of another company. That’s causing an “injury” that isn’t physical in nature to an entity (their company).
  • Medical Payments- This particular kind of insurance is a little bit different than the kind you may have seen on our other pages. Here, it covers the medical payments of people who are injured on your property that typically aren’t on your premises. So, a customer who falls down inside your office or in your bathroom, this covers their medical payments. Like so many other kinds of insurance, this is something a lot of business owners don’t realize how much they need.
  • Damage to Premises Rented to You - This kind of coverage covers you should you rent property for seven or fewer days. For example, if you travel while you’re getting the truck repaired and get a hotel room, this will cover you if you accidentally burn down the room (or something similar). Obviously, that’s a pretty extreme example.
  • Products/Completed Operations - This unique type of trucking insurance handles any property damage or bodily injury that occurs as a result of delivering someone else’s goods. For example, you deliver several gallons of a liquid. You off it into the wrong container; it ruins the factory and makes everyone there sick. As you would be liable in this circumstance, this insurance would have your back. This might seem like an example that’s pretty “out there,” but when you’re doing a lot of deliveries, anything can happen.

While these policies aren’t the least expensive, they can cover quite a bit. This particular kind of trucking insurance isn’t available for every kind of truck, so you’re going to want to contact us. Fortunately, this insurance is malleable, so we can put together a tailored package that will give you everything you need, while making sure you don’t have anything extraneous or unnecessary.
